A randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial is testing whether combining acute intermittent hypoxia with the adenosine A2A receptor inhibitor istradefylline can affect breathing-related measures in adults with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The study will assess safety, breathing, respiratory strength, symptoms and selected motor measures across four test sessions. Recruitment is ongoing, so the treatment’s effects are not yet known.
