ALSUntangled says Rife machines have not been shown to improve ALS on any objective outcome measure. It also says claims that the machines can target or kill pathogens using specific radio frequencies are unproven and highly implausible.

Why this matters

People with ALS and their families should not view Rife machines as an evidence-supported treatment based on this review. The review says a possible role for retroviruses in some ALS cases remains unsettled, but it does not support using Rife machines.

Limitations and context

This is a 2014 independent expert review from ALSUntangled, not a new clinical trial. The review reports no verified cases of objective ALS improvement with a Rife machine and does not establish whether retroviruses cause ALS in any individuals.
