Voice banking

Recording enough of your speech that a synthetic voice can later be built to sound like you.

What it means

You read a set of phrases aloud while a system records them. Software uses the recordings to build a voice that a communication device can speak with later. It works best while speech is still reasonably clear, which is why it tends to be raised early.

Why you might hear it

  • A speech pathologist may raise it soon after diagnosis.
  • It is often discussed alongside message banking, which is a different thing.
