Improving Care at Home: A New Study into Complex Homecare in MND (CHiMND)
A 30-month study at the University of Nottingham is examining how homecare workers support people with motor neurone disease (MND) who have complex care needs at home. The study uses interviews, worker diaries and analysis of data from earlier projects. By May 2025, researchers had completed some interviews, recruited two diary participants and begun analysing previous data.
Why this matters
The project could identify training, support and care-coordination needs for homecare workers, people with MND and family carers. It is still ongoing and has not yet shown that changes in care will improve outcomes or reduce hospital admissions.
Limitations and context
This is an organisational research blog describing an ongoing study, not a report of completed peer-reviewed results. The project is based in the UK, and the reported progress is partial: 11 of 20 homecare-worker interviews, 10 of 20 stakeholder interviews and 2 of 20 planned diary participants had been completed. Its eventual recommendations and effects on care remain to be established.
