Researchers developed a coumarin-based compound that detects more viscous environments and releases valproic acid when exposed to green light. The most responsive version detected increased viscosity in laboratory models of TDP-43 aggregation and Parkinson’s disease cells, where it was associated with reduced aggregation. The work was not conducted in people with ALS.
