Researchers reported that TDP-43 helped lung adenocarcinoma cells avoid ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death. Reducing TDP-43 slowed cancer-cell growth and tumour growth in mice, while increasing it had the opposite effect. The study did not investigate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or motor neurone disease (MND).
